April Ross

April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball stars who have managed to get medals from many Olympics. In Tokyo over the next several days she'll be aiming to win her third gold medal alongside fellow first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross's aim is to get her first Olympic Gold. This could be the final opportunity she gets at age 39. However, she's confident that winning the gold medal is on the horizon. If we can perform to our highest or even properly, I'm sure we can get that gold medal Ross said via NBC Boston. And, I'm also going to play a bit of chance. Ross came into the world in 1982. Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents as well as a sister. Ross went on to play in a myriad of activities during her time at Newport Harbor High School. As a student-athlete she also played indoor volleyball and track. She was evidently the best at the sport of indoor volleyball. In her time at high school, she was a middle blocker outside setter and hitter on a volleyball court, according to her college bio. The effort was recognized with her selection as the 1999 Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. In 2000, she was awarded her the Orange County Athlete of the of the year for volleyball. Ross and Klineman started their relationship in 2017 but Ross has been a prominent player on the beach long before. She's won big events with different teams. In one of the tournaments, she has become a legend in the world of volleyball. The pair was Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, as well as serving as a coach and Klineman. Together, Kessy Ross was a force in the international scene, winning a world title in 2009. In 2012, the duo were awarded silver medals at the London Olympics. They were beaten out for the gold medal by the storied team comprised of Misty May-Treanor as well as Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross became Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. They won the bronze medal at the beach volleyball competition in the Rio Olympics 2016. Ross was a student athlete at USC Trojans prior to beginning her pro career. She played in high school, and even years prior to playing on the beach as a professional. Ross's playing time with the Trojans was stellar. In 2000, she was awarded Pac-10 Freshman and NCAA Freshman Of The Year. In addition, she was she was an All-American. In 2000, her Trojans made it to the Final Four. Her sophomore year was the time she went through a heartbreaking personal loss, yet she managed to be a second All-American. Over her final two years at the school, she helped lead the Trojans towards the top of the mountain netting successive national titles. For her part, she cemented her place as a legend when she won the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This prize was awarded to the top female college athlete in the nation. Ross took a course in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross didn't see her daughter rise to the top of the field in volleyball. Margie, Ross's mother, passed away in 2001, when Ross was still at the age of a USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. She holds her mom in her arms. Margie is a constant source of inspiration for her on and off the beach.
